The Work Life Balance

Creating a healthy work life balance is incredibly important for happiness, productivity, and effectiveness at work.

Having the right balance between your career and lifestyle will give you the best chance of a strong performance at work and helps you maintain healthy relationships.

Without this balance you can be susceptible to extreme stress, fatigue, and discontentment. Which is detrimental to your personal wellbeing!

We all have preferred working styles and different demands placed upon us, both at home and in the workplace. By setting healthy boundaries we can help to reduce the stress that we hold on our shoulders.

Working out what works best for us and what fits in best with the demands of our busy modern lives is important on many levels.

Creating a happy balance doesn’t need to be complicated or involve expensive treats or time consuming events, small changes can make all the difference. For example, making sure to have time to switch off before going to bed will aid in a better night’s sleep.

Taking a lunch break daily to go and get some fresh air and to get away from whatever you are doing, to clear your thoughts and take some big deep breathes is fantastic for the mind and soul.

Making sure you have a routine for breaks and bedtimes reduces the need to spend that time deliberating and deciding.

Throughout your life you will continue to make adjustments as you see fit, but remember to listen to your body, as your brain will take longer to switch off.

In the workplace, boosting energy levels is essential for combating stress.

  • By setting realistic expectations you are relieving yourself of the pressure to respond immediately or deliver more than you have time for.
  • Making sure that “Out of office” is turned on as soon as you leave the workplace can help you set a boundary between work and home life.
  • Make sure to book holidays off, even if it’s just to sit at home with your PJ’S on reading a good book!
  • When the workload is piling up around you, by confirming you have time off coming up, or round the corner. It’s something to look forward to which will boost your mood in an otherwise stressful situation.
  • If your workload becomes too much, you are feeling overwhelmed and it’s spilling into your homelife, share this with your colleagues and employer. It doesn’t take a lot to ask for help and it certainly doesn’t make you weak.
  • The absolute key to avoid the “burnout” is to see your rest as valuable.
  • Give yourself equal priority in your personal life as working life.

It will allow you to remain focused and motivated while you are at work.

Your own health is crucial to you being able to give it your best.

Please be kind to yourself and be a bit selfish for your own wellbeing!
